When cargoes sustain damage, it is necessary to estimate the extent of damage and investigate to determine the cause of damage to facilitate compensation procedures. Advice on containing the damage and loss or damage mitigation are promptly given by surveyors. Damage survey report is submitted to the insurance company when the damage is covered by insurance and to the shipper when liability for the damage rests on the shipper for compensation to be settled.
